Which is that ONE HABIT which your friends and family would have advised you a million times to Quit? Wondering….let me help you. Its SMOKING. While you might already know the long term possible diseases you may have if you continue smoking such as Heart Diseases, Strokes, Cancer, Chronic Bronchitis, and other Fatal Diseases but no one has been able to convince you to Quit it.
Agreed, Quitting is hard, but it isn’t impossible if you would really like to.
Let me try to give you a few more reasons to help you motivate more to quit:
Foul smell
Your breath smelling of smoke is sure to make you self-conscious and isn’t even preferred by people around you. The smell of cigarette smoke doesn’t leave you, it stays on your clothes, hands and even hair, and is bound to make you a little less confident especially if you are around women or kids.
Causes Premature Aging
Regular smoking may cause premature aging of the face, leathery skin and deep wrinkling around the mouth. Smoking promotes biochemical changes in the body, deprives the living skin tissue of oxygen, causes constriction of the blood vessels. As a result, blood doesn’t get to your organs as easily, including the skin. Holding cigarettes also leads to staining of the hands and skin.
Impact on Physical Activity
Your ability to perform simple activities as climbing a set of stairs, jogging or enjoying sports gets diminished over time. Smoking causes the lungs and heart to work harder making it difficult for you to comfortably perform regular physical activity.
Increased Snoring
Smoking and living with a smoker i.e. being exposed to secondhand smoke, both, can increase the chances of snoring. Snoring is a nuisance for your bed partner. However, you not only disrupt the sleep patterns of your partner, but you also impair your own sleep quality. Habitual snoring may lead to excessive strain on the heart, light sleeping and interrupted breathing.
Acid Reflux/ Heartburn
Smoking causes inflammation of esophagus and increases the production of acid in your stomach. You are likely to suffer acid reflux or heartburn due to excessive smoking. Smoking also weakens the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which keeps the acid from backwashing into the esophagus. Due to constant assault by the corrosive stomach acid, the cells of the lining of the esophagus are damaged. In this way, smoking can lead to more dangerous condition medically known as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.
Risk of Impotence
If you are concerned about your performance in the bedroom you should immediately stop lighting up. As per research, smokers are likely to suffer erectile dysfunction, compared with men who never smoked cigarettes. Chances of impotence dramatically increase by affecting blood vessels that must dilate for an erection to occur.
You’re Risking Lives of Loved Ones
The main way smoking hurts your loved ones is through secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke is the combination of smoke that comes from your cigarette and smoke you breathe out. Your loved ones are at constant risk as they breathe in this smoke carrying carcinogens. The smoke can stay in the air for several hours after you smoke. The ingredients in the smoke cause the platelets to become sticky, increasing the risk of heart attacks.
There is no safe amount of cigarette smoke, the chemicals in tobacco reach your lungs quickly every time you inhale. Your blood carries the toxins to every organ in your body and harms them immensely, but after you quit, your body begins to heal. You may feel worse instead of better as withdrawal can be difficult, but it’s a sign that your body is healing.
