Can Manchester United Bounce BACK?

by Editor

MANCHESTER UNITED were unable to bounce back from their 2-1 loss from Crystal Palace as they were held by Southampton by a disappointing 1-1 draw.

Daniel James impressed again and fired a rocketing strike into the top right corner but it was not enough against the Saints who played the last 20 minutes with just ten men.

The Red Devils did put in a much improved game but saw Vestergaard earn a point for the Saints with a brilliant header.

The Manchester United boss was forced to make certain changes from his side who played The Eagles last weekend, with Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial injured for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium. Ashley Young and Juan Mata were called in for their replacements, they made their first league starts of the season and Andreas Periera started instead of Jesse Lingard.

First 45 minutes,

The Saints did threaten early on, putting some pressure on centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, but it was the Red Devils who took a lead in the first 45 minutes.

Daniel James was a constant threat throughout the first 45 minutes, with every United attack seemingly involving the welsh international. After his opening strike, he found himself in an almost similar position but he couldn’t recreate the finish. He did test Gunn again though with another rocketing shot from just a tad bit outside the penalty area forcing Gunn to punch it clear.

The equalizer,

It almost took an hour for David De Gea to be tested, the Spaniard Keeper saving well from a well struck near-post header from Saints first corner of the match, but a few seconds later Vestegaard scored from Boufal’s cross to level the game for the home side.

Rashford was the sole striker for Man United

The final minutes,

With 17 minutes left, Danso received a red card from referee Mike Dean for a late tackle on Scott McTominay. This certainly killed the momentum for Saints, and the Saints boss, Hasenhüttl sacrificed his striker Ings for his defender Yoshida.

The Reds continued to build on the pressure, a low shot from Rashford kept out and substitute Mason Greenwood saw his beautiful curling shot kept out by Gunn ensuring the sharing of the points with eachother.

But the question is can Manchester United bounce back? Can their luck shine again?
