After the shocking defeat, Sri Lanka inflicted on England, the world cup table is now subjected to the most interesting turn of events.
After winning the much-awaited, Pakistan vs India match, India now goes on to play against West Indies. While for Pakistan they revived themselves back with a win against South Africa. This resulted in the team exit the series following Afghanistan.
Quickly sketching out the possibilities of leftover teams onto the semis;
New Zealand alongside India is the only team to have remained unbeaten. N.Z tops the table with 5 wins and India stands with 4. While the N.W kiwis need just 1 more win to bag a spot India needs 2 more. India is ready to play against, West Indies, England, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh now. Looking at the team’s performance, winning 2 out of 4 will secure the spot in the next tier. It should not be very difficult.
Australia In The World Cup:
Australia another good performing team, with an exception of a flip against India, looks promising enough. Yet to play against England, New Zealand and South Africa they too need just 1 more win.
England In The World Cup
England, post its loss to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the series has to encounter Kohli and the team, New Zealand and Australia. Losing all these 3 would leave the team with 8 points and a possibility of being out from playing further. Staying on 8 and yet qualifying is subjected to the happening of Sri Lanka losing all remaining matches. Additionally, West Indies losing one. While, Pakistan and Bangladesh losing 2 out of their remaining ones… Quite a catch.
Srilanka In The World Cup:
Sri Lanka, standing at 6 points and 6 matches down will play 3 more games against South Africa, India and West Indies. Winning all 3 will push them ahead to 12 points. However, at 10 points to make it through the qualification they must pray for England to lose the remaining of their quest. Bangladesh to win nothing more than 2 and Pakistan to lose a minimum of 1.
All Other Major Teams:
Pakistan, winning against South Africa puts them in a position where they are at 5 points and 6 matches down. Yet to face New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, despite winning all 3 they need England to not win more than 1 and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to lost at least 1.
Bangladesh, at 2 wins from 6 matches is to play Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan now. Even after winning all scheduled 3 finishing at 11 points they can qualify if England doesn’t win more than 1 and Sri Lanka loses all of the remaining.
West Indies, 3 points and 3 matches more against India, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan can qualify, only if England loses all slated, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka win nothing more than 1 and Pakistan lose minimum 2, despite their own selves winning all slated 3.
